Amazonas 2 construction is ongoing
The new satellite will double Hispamar’s capacity for the Americas

Hispamar and the Hispasat Group have started manufacturing the Amazonas 2. This is due to the great success of the Amazonas satellite commercialization and because they believe in the potential of the Brazilian and American markets.

Hispamar – which in 2003 set up a solid structure in Brazil, counting on an office, a Control Center for the satellite and a Teleport, has already invested more than  R$ 1 billion in the country and will continue investing in the region  by developing and launching the new satellite.

Amazonas 2 will occupy the orbital position 61º West – an excellent position to provide quality support throughout the Brazilian territory – covering all the American continent, from Alaska to Terra do Fogo, with optimized spectrum above North America and South America in Ku band, and with an hemispheric spectrum in C band which covers the American continent.

With its launching expected for the first half of 2009, Amazonas 2 will operate with 64 equivalent transponders (36 MHz frequency waves units ), being 54 in Ku band and 10 in C band. The satellite will also count on the innovative system AMHERIS, which enables connection between users with one single step – optimizing the band, reducing delay and costs of land equipment – ensuring the continuity of the service already offered, currently available with Amazonas.

Amazonas 2 will be launched with a mass of 5.5 tons and will have a solar panel which will have more than 39 meters when opened, giving us an idea of its size. The satellite will provide a big variety of communication services, including DTH services – Direct to Home, corporate networks, fixed phone communication, mobile phone communication and internet, among other applications, for an average period of 15 years.

Hispamar’s capacity offer will double with the new satellite, as it will be added to Amazonas’ capacity to support a satellite demand that is continuously increasing, as the search for satellite services – originated by a set of factors related to the support of new applications via satellite, such as Distance Learning Courses and Corporate TV, HDTV, the teles arrival in the DTHs market and the growth of Telcos backbone – according to market indicators, will not be totally supplied by 2009.

Hispamar and Amazonas in the Brazilian and American markets

Although it is a fairly new satellite operator, Hispamar has consolidated its presence in the Brazilian and American markets, because of its view of being a partner company to its clients and, mainly, by Amazonas high technical quality – the biggest and most efficient Brazilian satellite, with 63 transponders, being 36 in Ku band and 27 in C band, besides Pan-American coverage and European connection.

Through Amazonas, the company outsources services to several segments throughout the American continent, among them: governments, audiovisual (open TVs, DTH and radio stations), corporate, telcos, education, oil and gas.

Hispamar was the pioneer at outsourcing services in Ku band in Brazil, also focusing on new niches such as distance learning education, directed to people who live far from big centers and who would not have the opportunity to go and/or pay for quality education, and corporate TV via satellite, showing the efficiency and benefits of this frequency, until then seen as inefficient by the Brazilian market.

In Brazil, the Amazonas satellite enables two digital inclusion projects: the PGMU – General Plan of Objectives to make main fixed phone communication operators universal in the country, which defines the implementation and the offer of telephone service to cities with more than 300 inhabitants, and the Gesac, a federal government program which aims at offering Internet access to digitally excluded communities.

The company also supports the big cell phone companies in the country, contributing to the expansion of their networks in the inner area of Brazilian states and in the North region of the country and is also well positioned in the video market, supporting two big DTH companies and several head-ends clients such as SBT, TV Cultura and Bandeirantes TV.

Moreover, Hispamar was the only regional company from this sector to obtain projection in the USA, conquering the trust of the American government.  The company worked in resetting communication in New Orleans after the Katrina hurricane and supplies satellite capacity to airplanes with no crew from the American Army, used to control North-American borders.

The way Hispamar works along with its history have taken the company to a good position and market recognition, making it known as a cutting edge technology company that is also reliable and a partner.

About Hispamar Satellites
