Hispamar at Futurecom 2007

Consolidating its marketing positioning strategy, Hispamar took part of Futurecom 2007, the main event in the Latin American Telecommunication and IT sectors, which took place at the Centro Sul Conventions Center in Florianópolis.

In its  Business Suite, Hispamar executives received well known representatives of the telecommunications market. Among them was the Digital Inclusion Services Department Director  from the Communications Ministry, Heliomar Medeiros de Lima, responsible for GESAC (Electronic Government – Citizens Support Service), a federal government project which provides internet access at schools, telecenters, ONGs (non-Governmental Organizations), distant communities and military bases at borders, besides offering services such as e-mail accounts and hosting webpages.   GESAC is enabled by two satellites:  Amazonas and Estrela do Sul from Loral, and it already counts on 3,450 points installed in several remote Brazilian regions.  At the end of the year there will be another trading session, to expand the service, which intends to provide support to 8 thousand schools, including technical federal ones and all public high school.

Hispamar was also present at the Futurecom International Congress. The company Technical Director, Edio Gomes, made a speech about “Wide Bandwidth Via Satellite:  Contributing to digital inclusion in Brazil and Latin America”.  Gomes explained that satellite technology is the one that presents best cost/benefit relation for this type of project: “The satellite is the best solution for digital inclusion in remote areas, as implementation cost is low and does not require big investments and long work, as it would be necessary if the government decided to cable the Amazon Forest to offer internet access and other applications in this region.  Besides, connection via satellite can be complemented by WiMax technology, which would make this service even cheaper”.

The director also mentioned some successful cases such as the Gesac itself, the Compartel (a project developed by the Colombian government) and the Enciclomedia (from the Mexican government), projects that were made possible by wide bandwidth technology via satellite
