One of the innovations on the Amazonas satellite is the incorporation of the AMERHIS onboard processing system. The AMERHIS operational system is a multimedia communications system that allows for interconnection between users with a single hop. Multiplexing of the signal is carried out on board the satellite, which reduces the cost of land equipment and optimizes the frequency bands taking better advantage of the power resources on board the satellite. It is available on 4 Ku Band transponders in four connectivities: Brazil, South America, North America and Europe.

The Amerhis system supposes a qualitative leap in the conventional use of communication satellites in Latin America. Its commercialization allows the users that utilize satellite capacity in their transmissions to send signals directly from their installations to the satellite without the need of using any common land infrastructure (teleport) as it currently does, therefore, reducing signal transportations costs to the teleport.

It also facilitates connecting one coverage zone to several others using a single transmission, as well as combining several signals into a single signal on board the satellite, even when coming from different coverage areas.
